THE (sort of) BIG PICTURE PART I

In a couple of weeks (17 days to be exact), I will be turning 22. Yes, 22. I know it doesn’t seem to be as scary as turning 30 (sorry for those who are); I’ve somehow begun to feel anxious about the swiftly impending date (or doom). It’s not that I’ve ever cared about my age, or aging rather, I just noticed that somehow this entire year went by almost without me knowing it.

Who or what is to blame? MY JOB. See, ever since I’ve started working almost 10 months ago, my time has been consumed by presentations, scripts, events, etc. And although I tried my hardest not to let my personal hobbies slip from me; that is exactly what happened. I went into my job thinking I’d be able to do what I love doing but being there for almost a year proved it to be the complete opposite. I know I should be thankful that I even have a job blah blah. That I am. But this year, I have to be honest, was virtually insignificant because of it. But all of that will change.

No, I am not quitting my job (I wish I could). What I will do is to try to make the most out of it. It will be a birthday present to me. To make up for lost time, I will set my priorities straighter than it was previously. Starting with this blog.

I’ve decided to change my Tumblr name. So when you type in potatokat.tumblr.com onto your browser, you will be met by an error page. So now, my tumblr page will be “in-norfolk.tumblr.com”. I even re-designed my layout. Yay pretty!

Moving on, I’ve noticed my posts have been lack luster recently, I have to admit. Don’t get me wrong. I love my posts. But along the way, I lost the reason why I started this blog in the first place. So to undo what has been done, I will pick back up everything that I’ve lost over the course of these wretched months: things I love doing (and posting about them).

    Starting with…

    1. Mixtapes

I’ve been making mixtapes since I was a kid actually. Back then, they were actual tapes (yes, cassette tapes). But if you’re picturing me sitting on my bedroom floor with records strategically stacked around me, you’ve got it all wrong. No, sadly, I was no Rob. I would actually wait around with my blank tapes for the songs to play on my FM radio before I started to press that little red dot. It was tough, I know. But it did it for me. I had loads of tapes, stashed in a tiny orange box, with songs that ranged from the beastie boys to the backstreet boys. I lost that hobby together with my childhood until a couple years ago I gave one of my friends a mix CD (themed, of course). Now, I see a bunch of mixtapes floating around on the internet and I figured why not. I’m actually working on a holiday mixtape right now. I intend to give it to my friends my Christmas. SSSHHH! Don’t tell!

    2. Food

I love stuffing my face with food. Nothing gives me more joy… and gas. Recently, I came up with a scheme that will take my friends and I to different restaurants and food markets, that we’ve never been to, in the following year. It will be our T-gang Food Excursions 2011. (T-gang, of course, is what we call ourselves. You have to hang out with us to find out why). It will be an entire year of pictures of food, piles of dinner bills, and enormous bellies. Yum!

    3. Books

I will definitely be reading more. I literally have a pile of books waiting to be cracked open. Expect to see maybe my thoughts on these particular books, updates on my current reads, their possible film adaptations, etc.

    4. Film

A year ago, I bought myself a range finder and got rolls of film and started clicking away. A year later, I still haven’t processed the film. WHAT THE HELL. Not for long, though. I will blow away the dust from that camera, take more shots, PROCESS THEM, and post them here.

    5. Writing

For those who don’t know, I like to write fiction. I used to write different stories even going as far as writing fan fiction (call me a loser). That, I think, has been the one thing that I have almost completely lost. But I say, no more.

Hopefully, by the grace of God and a lot of strict scheduling, I shall be able to accomplish all of these. It would really suck if after a few months nothing changes and I would have wasted all this time just writing this post alone. More importantly, it would be really embarrassing. Don’t embarrass yourself, Kat. Wish me luck!
