my big fat (not exactly) greek weekend

It’s finally the weekend. This week actually went by swifter than I had expected. I’m lying on my bed enjoying not being at work. You have no idea how good it feels to be back home and actually feel Christmas coming. My mom set up the tree already and has put gifts under it too. My sister even told me she started playing our Christmas CD. Up North, I feel, isn’t the place to “feel” Christmas. For some reason, it is still so hot up there. Here down South, it’s always breezy and you feel chilly in the mornings. That’s how I like it. But when Christmas is nearing the inevitable happens: traffic is at its worst.

So last night, after being on their road (stuck in traffic) for 2 hours, Jorn and I decided to have dinner at one of our favorite Japanese joints, Fukuya.

If you know me, you know I love my Ramen. But I’ve only recently discovered their savory Okame Ramen. I fell in love on the first taste. It helps that it doesn’t have meat too. So, really, this has only been the second time I’ve eaten this. SO GOOD.

I was disappointed, though, when I didn’t hear their Japanese-version Christmas songs playing on their sound system. I was looking forward to slurping up my Udon whilst hearing the tune of Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer with Japanese lyrics. Oh well.

For those who live down South, if you want great and cheap Japanese food, go to Fukuya. It’s awesome.

The thing about Fukuya, though, is that it sits way too near the delectable and irresistible Sbarro. My stomach can never say no to Sbarro.  And when I turned that corner and saw that my favorite pizza flavor was sitting on their display counter, I went ballistic. Sbarro?? Fukuya?? Sbarro?? Fukuya?? It was a tough choice trust me. I hadn’t seen that flavor in a loooooooooooooooooong time. Seriously, it felt like a lifetime since I’ve seen it. I thought they didn’t make it anymore. Of course, I couldn’t just let the opportunity to savor that fine dish slip away. So…

I bought a slice. I kept it in the fridge and I was half frightened that someone (kuya) would eat it while I was sleeping. So, I wrote a note on the box and sent out a tweet last night:

That Mike Posner song is so catchy and quite suited the occasion.

This morning, after having brought my brother to his Mathletes class, I found my parents taking out all the junk from our house and I found the most magnificent thing.

    My Cookie Factory!

This used to be the little oven that I baked my cookies in. It’s amazing. You mix up the batter, place it gingerbread mold, bake em, and voila! Hot and perfectly golden brown cookies.

It was easy too coz it had a self timer. My sister and I are planning to whip up a batch of batter and try to see if this thing still works. I wanna give it to my niece for when she grows up a bit and takes after her baker mom. COOOOKKIIIIEEESSS.

All these things alone has given me an idea of what it will be like in the next weekends leading up to Christmas and New Year. I hope I don’t get too fat. hehe
